With gas prices sneaking up, airfares soaring sky high and the economy sinking so low, planning a vacation this year may be the last thing on your to-do list.
Your vacation days do not have to go to waste if you turn the holiday into a ’staycation’.
‘Staycation’ is the latest buzzword to pick up steam in a chilly economic environment.
Stephanie Heckathorne with the Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau said it’s the best way for Valley residents to still do something for their vacation and put money back into the local economy.
Online reports also point out that the U.S. dollar isn’t the value it used to be compared to other markets around the world. So you’ll get more for your money by staying in this country.
Phoenix area hotels are raising the stakes on a yearly tradition during the hospitality industry’s sunny and scorching off-season.
Many hotels are not only offering discounted rates for Arizona residents, but also throwing in many xtras.
Discounts off spa treatments, $50 credit at hotel dining rooms, even gas cards to help you get there.
But if you want to stay home and sleep in your own bed, Heckthorne suggests going to one of the top attractions around the valley.
Some attractions like The Heard Museum, First Fridays in Downtown Phoenix, or ASU Gammage are even partnering with hotels to give Valley residents a deal they just can’t refuse.
