Phoenix may not be the fittest city in America, but we’re not the fattest either… There are plenty of creative ways that Valley get those endorphins flowing, and we takes a sweaty look…
Although workout fanatics rave about Gainey Village and Lifetime Fitness, Norma R refers to the Lincoln Family Phoenix Downtown YMCA (aka the newly revamped ‘Y’) as gym utopia! Are you a yogi or yogini? You’ve not experienced yoga until you’ve practiced at At One Yoga – by far her greatest yoga experience to date. Or head over to Rejuvination Thai Massage & Yoga where Angie K exclaims “this little zen gem rocks the casbah!”
Many people prefer our natural surroundings for some fresh air, sunshine, and a workout. Head over to South Mountain Park where you may just bump into Mike V who gets bragging rights for hiking just about every marked trail (and many that aren’t). If it’s Silent Sunday, which takes place once each month, you may also find Amanda B there – she enjoys escaping the buzz along with pedestrians, bicyclists, and those drawn to other non-motorized wheeled devices.
The Valley has plenty of other hiking and mountain biking options too. It’s worth fighting the crowds at Camelback Mountain, according to Jenn H; it’s her favorite workout and outdoor activity in all of Arizona, and the view from the top is totally worth it. Sophie B prefers to get her tush movin’ at Piestewa Peak (formerly known as Squaw Peak); she exclaims it’s an amazing workout and admits it kicks her butt a little! There’s also the Arizona Canal for those that prefer flat terrain, nothing wrong with that.
Play ball like Adrian P does with the Cactus Cities Softball League — the best part is the camaraderie amongst everyone involved. If you’ve already got your own team of family or friends, head over to Kiwanis Park where they’ve got batting cages, tennis courts, volleyball courts, picnic areas, and an enormous wave pool that becomes a lap pool for adults on weekday evenings.
Now what’s you’re excuse, stop reading this sentence and get going! Need more inspiration? Sarah K’s intensive Workout 101 list will surely pump you up! Move it!
