Best Arizona Golf – Eagle Mountain Golf Club – Scottsdale Golf Courses

January 8, 2008 – 9:58 pm

Presented By Arizona Resorts Getaway

Eagle Mountain opened in 1996 to rave reviews. It was voted “Best New Public Course” by the Arizona Republic and was ranked the No. 2 Best Public Golf Course in 1997 by Arizona Business magazine.Located just east of Scottsdale in Fountain Hills, Eagle Mountain has panoramic views of the mountains surrounding the Valley of the Sun. Course designer Scott Miller made a point to uphold the area’s desert tranquility while testing the golfer’s talents with elevation changes, rolling hills and undulations. The course plays a friendly 6,755 yards from the championship tees. The 10th and 18th are Eagle Mountain’s two water holes. No. 10 is a picturesque, downhill par 5 with gorgeous valley views and a narrow fairway sloping to the water. The 18th drops 100 feet from tee to green and also slopes toward the water. Like all holes at Eagle Mountain, the 18th has a fitting nickname: “That’s Golf.” The best view on the property may be from the clubhouse, which overlooks the entire course and has beautiful views of the entire valley. We-Ko-Pa Golf Club – Saguaro Course

18200 East Toh Vee Circle
Fort McDowell, AZ, 85264

The Saguaro course at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is one of the newer golf courses in Scottsdale’s golf resort corridor, and it is already trying to set itself apart from the pack with its Speed Carts. That’s right, this Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw design is made for walking, and these remote-controlled carts takes the concept of the Old School pull carts to the next level. They’re like a Segway for your golf clubs.Gimmicks aside, the Saguaro is a stern test in Arizona golf, a course where you need to commit to each shot you hit. There are holes, like No. 6, when you are shooting directly uphill. There are holes, like No. 16, that hug the desert on every turn. There are holes, like No. 14, that literally have a split personality: In this case, a fairway split in two by huge cacti, giving golfers perhaps the most obviously risk-reward shot on the golf course.

Saguaro’s greens are excellently maintained, as is the rest of the course. It’s sometimes hard to remember you’re in the middle of the desert.
